  1. I used to feel like you do about the X card, and I’ve also come around. So long as the offending topic isn’t so broad, like any kind of violence, it should be easy to accommodate the players’ requests.

  2. It’d be interesting to hear your take on more complex variations of the safety tools out there, especially among people for whom the X-card doesn’t work well (such as games with close friends or with people for whom silence is stressful).

There’s a long way that tabletop gamers have come since the introduction of the X-card, and I think covering that ground is helpful especially because people do have legitimate issues with the X-card in isolation. For instance, of those tools, I prefer just doing a debrief after every game to make sure we’re all on the same page and to make sure we discuss anything people are uncomfortable with. And knowing that “debrief” is an equally valid tool as something more formal-sounding like the “XNO-card” is really helpful and neat for me personally!

Just my two cents, of course. I know this podcast/blog isn’t primarily focused on safety tools, just bringing it up since I thought you might be interested 🙂

    1. Thanks very much for your comment

You’re right ofc there are numerous safety tools out there, I’ve focussed on the X Card because it is known and also simple. I may get into other safety tools at some point, although I’m not sure if I’d personally use them because of the increased complexity. You never know though
